End-Of-The-Year Insurance Letter to Patients

Dear PATIENT:

We hope the fall season has been good to you and yours. Keeping in mind that winter is coming, we would like to remind you that your dental insurance benefits are about to expire for 2014.

Every year, your family gets dental benefit dollars allocated to your account. Your insurance company doesn’t remind you that you have benefit dollars left because if you don’t apply for those benefits, they never have to pay them. (Unclaimed dollars DO NOT roll over into 2015). A lot of patients don’t think about this and they let hundreds, or thousands, of dollars fall silently into the insurance company’s bank account.

Treatment is never dictated by insurance. However, if you have needed, but uncompleted, dental treatment, you should have it completed before the end of the year.

Here’s an example of the smart way to use your dental insurance benefits: There’s two months left of 2014 and you have $500 dollars of benefits left from the original $1,000 balance. You have dental work needed that can be split into different appointments. The total cost of your dentistry will be about $1400.

Situation A: You have the first parts of the dental treatment completed for $600 before December 31st. Insurance pays you $500. On January 1st, your plan “resets” and you have $1000 in benefits coming. You have the next portion of treatment completed for about $1,200. Insurance pays you $1,000. Total insurance company dollars paid – $1,500. Total you pay – $300.

Situation B: You don’t get around to getting your dentistry completed until February 2015. Sadly, on December 31st, 2014 you lost $500 in insurance benefits. After your dentistry is completed in February, you submit a claim and the insurance company pays you. $1,000. Total insurance company dollars paid – $1,000. Total you pay – $800.

Our goal with every one of our patients is to help you enjoy great oral health. That means that you look good, you feel good, you have strong teeth and gums, and you enjoy the benefits of a healthy, attractive smile for a lifetime. If you would like to make an appointment, just give us a call and we will find a time that is convenient for you. Just remember that when the clock strikes 12 midnight on December 31st, you will lose any unused dental benefits. We are happy to help you get the full benefits that you are entitled to under your dental benefits policy.

Here’s to helping you achieve excellent dental health!
