The following is a synopsis of Mark Curtis’ presentation, which will be given at the first annual DentalTown Extravaganza.

Recession proofing your practice
so you can enjoy the coming good times.

How do you get more elective cases, full-mouth work, or both? How do you reach potential patients or upgrade current patients? What is the best way to market yourself: the up-scale cosmetic spa, the expert in full-mouth rehabilitation, the omniscient group practice, or the small town cosmetic “emphasis” practice? These are critical questions you face. Now, you can meet these questions head-on. Mark Curtis will show you how to develop a marketing system that optimizes the implementation, and effectiveness of your marketing.

Five Marketing Essentials to be Discussed

Practice Image Branding
Many doctors never realize it, but a practice logo has an immediate, as well as residual effect on consumers. When others see your business card, for example, they instantly make subjective evaluations of colors, type style, message content, creativity and sophistication. The combination of these perceptions is your BRAND. What is YOUR Brand?

Web Site Development
Many dentists are not sure why they should even have a Web Site for their practice. However, if you think about it in familiar terms, it becomes very obvious. Imagine 10 to 20 people a day walking into your practice to ask your receptionist for detailed information about you, your services and the practice because they were thinking about changing dentists. Would presenting compelling information to those people become a PRIORITY for you?

Current Patient Marketing
It is often said that, “Your patients are your best source of new patients.” Not only is that still very valid, it is an understatement. However, what exactly are they saying? Are they still saying, “You should see my doctor. He’s nice.” That is not enough anymore. You need to turn your patients into powerful marketing tools for you and your practice. The challenge? You would be surprised at what they don’t know, or worse, what they think they know, about you. Would your patients fail the “Top 5 Things I Should Know About My Dentist” test?

New Patient Marketing
What exactly do your prospective patients and your best target market know about you and your practice? What opinions have they formed about you? If they were to choose a new dentist tomorrow, on what attributes would they judge you? What should you tell them? How do you get the messages to them? Which media is best for your message and when and how often do you present it? Do you have an orchestrated marketing PLAN?

Media Marketing
Your local media’s job is to present new and interesting information to the public. Sometimes those stories will be about dentistry - the kind of dentistry about which you know a thing or two. What would make interesting copy to the news editor? How do they develop stories? How do they develop an expert list in different fields? Are you on that EXPERT list?

Reception Area DVD

There are three patients seated in your reception area. Will they be interested in, even ask about, esthetic dentistry? Now, put your reception room television to good use! A reception area DVD program can lead patients through a journey of exciting smile transformations. Patients can view the cases without the embarrassment of looking at a makeover book in front of other patients. Everyone can watch at the same time and the morphing transformations and soft music are almost hypnotic. In addition, you have the ability to include an informational message about you and the practice during the presentation.

We are pleased to announce that we have been selected for three American Graphic Design Awards. The winning entries were developed to position our clients as the premier dentist in their area.

Now in its 25th year, the competition has emerged as one of the most prestigious and, at the same time, the most democratic of all graphic communication contests. Published by Kaye Publishing Corporation for 37 years, Graphic Design:USA is a monthly business-to-business magazine for professional graphic designers and related creative and production professionals. It reaches 30,000 of the design field's freshest design firms, corporations, ad agencies and publishers. The magazine covers the latest in news, trends, people, events, projects, products, services and ideas. This year’s entries numbered roughly 10,000 with less than 10% named winners.

We would like to thank Dr. Steven Imberman, Dr. Sameer Puri, and Dr. Steven Wegner for putting their trust in our agency and letting our creative juices flow. Congratulations!

The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s 18th Annual Scientific Session was held May 7-12, 2002 in Honolulu, Hawaii. This was where many of the world's best dentists went to increase their understanding and skills in advanced cosmetic dentistry. While the breathtaking beauty of the Islands was a big attraction, we believe the educational program remained unmatched by any other dental conference offered anywhere in the world. We were excited to be in attendance at many of these thought provoking and expertise-focused seminars and courses.

More than 85 world-class speakers presented programs that ranged from specific clinical procedures for excellence in cosmetic dentistry to general sessions aimed at helping improve the practice environment. The meeting was geared for all dental professionals, including general dentists, dental specialists, laboratory technicians, business assistants, hygienists, and clinical assistants.

The theme for the 2002 session was: From Solo to Symphony. The theme relates to how multiple disciplines (general dentists, specialists and others) work together to create beautiful, long-lasting smiles. Feel free to ask us about this exceptional learning experience.
